Thermal Hydraulics & Severe Accident Research Division as one of the global R&D leaders is committed to create and disseminate critical nuclear safety knowledge in the area of thermal hydraulics and severe accident to various stakeholders including safety authority, R&D institute, industry and academia.

More than twenty world-class experimental facilities ranging from fundamental two-phase R&D to large scale integral effect tests and even to the severe accident R&D dealing with corium and fission product are actively operating and widely used for code validation and safety improvement of the nuclear installations. In particular, we pursue multi-disciplinary nuclear safety R&D to integrate neutronics, nuclear fuel behavior, thermal-hydraulics and severe accident fields.

High performance safety analysis code development group is also one of our great pride. Multi-scale, high-fidelity safety analysis codes are being developed by the code development group and its application area becomes wide to Generation IV reactor applications.

Validation based on experimental database always comes first before the safety analysis tools are of a practical use. That’s the main reason why we maintain the up-to-date experimental database list. We’re working very closely with the OECD/NEA data bank and other international DB providers. The collected experimental database including integral effect tests and separate effect tests is listed on this website and it can be shared for your code validation upon cooperation agreement.
